Trip Indroduction

Bandipur Hike is always a good idea for your vacation in Nepal because it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller. Perched at the top of a hill, where settlement seems to be far from sight thrives a wonderful town of Bandipur. The town has an ancient structure with pagoda styled roofs and intricate window designs. The center of the attraction is the Bandipur bazaar with beautifully decorated historic houses along the long stretched stone-paved path. The town has temples, stone fountains, a huge cave, trees bearing oranges, a silkworm farm, and the exquisite age-old Newari culture.

Bandipur was occupied by Newars in the 18th century after Prithvi Narayan Shah ruled the Magar Kingdom of Tanahun. The architecture of the town reflects the rich Newari culture still frozen in time. The absence of vehicles in the town, closely build neat houses and restaurant tables set out on the stone streets, gives a distinct feel to the place. The old building has been resurrected with enhanced facilities like modern bathrooms and toilets, sturdy stairs and pillars and walls, yet preserving the historic beauty of the buildings. Even the temples and pavements have been repaired from the ruins. The town has made a lot of effort to maintain its unique features and designs and thus, flourished as the best tourist destination in Nepal.

Bandipur is 145 kilometers west from Kathmandu city and uphill from Dumre on the way to Pokhara. There are notable attractions during Bandipur village tour reached within an hour or two hikes. The Thani Mai temple is a small temple located on the very top of Bandipur. Visitors take a steep hike to camp here for the night and view the early morning sunrise over the Himalayan Mountains during Bandipur village hiking. The edge overlooks the vast Marsyangdi valley surrounded by chains of mountains and soaring Himalayan mountain ranges.  The snow-capped mountain visible from the top of the hill includes Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Gorkha Himal, Manaslu, Himchuli, Buddha Himal, Dhaulagiri as well as Annapurna are the major attractions of Bandipur Hiking, the best short hiking in Nepal. During the autumn season, the valley is covered with dense fog that makes the hill seem like floating over the clouds with only the Himalayan range visible at a distance. Tudikhel, a historic parade ground, but a playground today, that also has similar views of the valley and mountains as from the temple.

Bandipur hike takes you to Bindebasini and Khadga Devi temples with historic significances. The shrines and places around the village are interlinked with stone steps and pavements. At the outskirts of the town, there is a row of stone water fountains as of old times, still used for washing and bathing. Next, on the other side of the hill, there is a silkworm and mulberry farm. The workers take you on a tour to show live crawling worms munching on mulberry leaves and explain how silk is made. They also have few samples of silk drapes and clothes. Another interesting place to visit in Bandipur is the Siddha Gufa, a huge cave discovered only a few decades ago. It is 437 meters deep and 50 meters high. It is the largest cave in Nepal, also one of the dangerous, as chasms are very steep and deep with thousands of bats lurking in the darkness.
