Langtang Region Trek

Langtang Region is one of that less crowded trekking destination of Nepal that has been able to amaze the visitors with its natural charm. The region is just to the north-east of Kathmandu, only 32 kilometers from the entrance to Langtang region. The region is also under the protection of the Langtang National Park established in 1976 A.D and requires park permit to enter the 1,710 sq. km span area out of which 420 sq km is declared as a buffer zone. Trekking in Langtang region begins from Sundarijal, which can be reached by driving about 30 to 40 minutes from the center of Kathmandu. Although it is very close to the arrival destination in Kathmandu, many trekkers prefer Annapurna and Everest region, leaving this unique heritage region to enjoy in isolation.

Langtang Trek gives an opportunity to view some of the wonderful Langtang Lirung mountain peak (7246m). There are other mountain peaks visible from the region like Makalu, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Annapurna. Moreover, the view of the Ganja La and Dorje Lakpa range is breathtaking. On the top of the Gosaikunda lies the sacred lake where many devotees take a dip in the cold water. The region also possesses an opportunity to view the glorious glacier sights and multiple icy lakes nearby Gosiakunda. The trail to the high points of the region passes through Chorko Ri and magnificent ancient monasteries like the Langtang Gompa and Kyanjin Gompa. Trekking through the Langtang region is full of bio-diversities.  The trail is rough but the wonder of nature brings excitement to the journey. The forests are covered with colorful rhododendron flowers, fresh river water, and waterfalls. Trekking in the Langtang region is also a chance to spot the rare and endangered Red Panda.  The region is not only naturally attractive but culturally as well as religiously prosperous. Helambu Trek, Tamang Heritage Trek, and Langtang Gosainkunda Trek are popular trekking destinations of Langtang Region Trekking.

The Langtang region is inhabited mostly by Tamang, Lama, Gurung, and Sherpa people that traditionally follow Tibetan Buddhism. Many of the villagers are occupationally involved in agriculture, yak farming, and tourism through operating lodges. There is a yak cheese factory that many people like to visit and observe the process and purchase some. There is plenty of opportunities to explore the culture of the unique culture of the Langtang region. The village path is wonderfully decorated with chortens and stupas. Buddhist prayers are inscribed over rocks and welcomed by peace flags.
